Next Steps
Before the Surgery:
You undergo a screening exam to check the health of your eyes and to determine which of the many available procedures is best suited for your eyes. After the tests and measurements are performed, your surgeon will explain to you the benefits and the risks of the proposed procedure and what you should expect after a surgery.
Day of the Surgery:
You are given a low dose valium to relax you and to prepare you for surgery. You walk into the surgical suite. The procedure usually takes a mere 15-20 minutes. You come out with your eyes open and your vision corrected.
After the Surgery:
You will need to be examined the day after the surgery, three months following, and again after one year. Depending on the type of the procedure you underwent, the follow-up exam schedule may vary. For safety purposes, we at the 5th Avenue Eye Center prefer to keep a close watch on your condition to make sure that all is going according to plan. After the surgery you may resume all physical activities (with the exception of swimming) for two weeks. Of course, you should avoid rubbing your eyes during these two weeks as well. Finally, You may need to use drops for a short period to ensure proper healing. It really is that easy.
